Rossmin – the future is in the children

2022/05/11

As an employer of a skilled workforce, Rossmin realises that there are many children whose education is disadvantaged through lack of resources. As the dominant employer in the Oshabeni community, Rossmin has adopted 7 schools in our community where we feel we can make a difference. Our support is highlighted by the following 2 projects:

Maris Stella is a primary school with some 200 learners from Grade R to Grade 7, which to date has lacked water and proper ablution facilities. In today's Covid pandemic, lack of these basic facilities creates a potential health crisis. Well, those days are over!

Rossmin has drilled a borehole and installed a water supply system with a revamped kitchen and hand washing basins and drinking water stations. Water borne toilets are under construction and expected to be completed shortly.

Rossmin has also added a library building with undercover outdoor area, and books, to the learners in the hope that access to books will spark the urge to read, the backbone of any education system. Rossmin has also facilitated the supply of 7 laptops to this school as the start of development into the 4th industrial revolution.

A second school is Duduzela High School, with some 800 learners and growing. The school currently caters to Grade 10. Rossmin, with partners, has secured some R1 million rand and employed a contractor, to build 4 additional classrooms on to the school. Contractor is on site with an expectation be completed by end June 2022.

The extra facilities will allow the school to add another Grade (Grade 11) which gives the learners the opportunity to stay at school for another year before either dropping out, or having to move to a second institution further away, for what is the most two important years of their schooling (Grades 11 and 12).
