An unintended consequence of the prolonged lockdown, with no real end in sight, is the amplified effect that this is having on local communities that currently have reduced sources of income or access to food and facilities.
Rossmin is privileged to be able to continue operations as a registered essential service, and as one of the few employers in the local Oshabeni community is grateful to be able to participate in a food donation programme to supplement other government & Ugu district initiatives. Rossmin is happy to contribute to the wellbeing of the community within our sphere of influence.
On Monday, 04 May 2020, some 3.3 tons of Unity instant porridge was donated by Rossmin to the community at a small "socially distanced event" at the mine, where local councillors and representatives of the tribal authority under the auspices of the UGU Health Department, gratefully received the parcels on behalf of the Oshabeni Community.
Fana Shozi, Rossmin Mine Manager, expressed his feelings at the event: "it is extremely humbling and gratifying to be able to give something back to the community under these most difficult circumstances".
