On the 26th of January 2024, Rossmin had the honour to host geologists Dr Juergen Reinhardt (University of Western Cape), Dr Tanja Reinhardt (Coordinator of the Science and Technology Education Centre at the University of KwaZulu Natal), and Professor Geoff Grantham (University of Johannesburg).
The geologists were given a brief history and overview of the quarries and process plant and inducted on the mine procedures. The quarry manager, Bongekile Dumisa, and the mine's trainee geologist, Lithalelanga Mahiti, hosted the visit to the quarries.
The geologists were visiting various mines in the Marble Delta as part of research on the conditions under which high-grade calc-silicate rocks form. The geologists did fieldwork and took rock samples of specific textures and mineralogy for further petrographic analysis.
They also shared their experience and offered valuable advice on mining procedures applicable to the industry.
